The Sile: from the springs to the sea
2 days

From the springs to the sea, through nature, villages and traditions

Following the Sile River means moving through a landscape that changes slowly, yet remains perfectly harmonious. It is a journey that begins where water quietly rises from underground and accompanies you all the way to the sea, through nature, history, and everyday life unfolding along the riverbanks.

This two-day itinerary offers a deep immersion into the most authentic side of the Veneto region: a land of tree-lined paths, Venetian villas, quiet villages, and traces of a past shaped by river navigation. Cycling along Europe’s longest spring-fed river, you experience a continuous flow of scenery, where the rhythm is set by water rather than time.

The Sile is not just a cycling route, but a story that reveals itself kilometer after kilometer—from the intimate atmosphere of the springs to the open light of the lagoon and the Adriatic Sea. An experience designed for those who embrace slow travel, combining movement, discovery, and a genuine connection with the territory.

Itinerary

Fontanasso → Treviso

The journey begins in the peaceful setting of the Sile springs, where crystal-clear water emerges from the ground surrounded by meadows and woodland. From here, you cycle along shaded riverbanks and quiet nature trails towards Badoere, known for its distinctive circular square with elegant arcades.

The route continues along the Ostiglia Cycle Path, one of the most scenic sections in the area, before heading back towards Treviso following the river through countryside, villas, and small villages.

Arrival is in the heart of Treviso, among canals, watermills, and picturesque waterways that define the city and mark the end of the first day.

  • Badoere’s circular square
  • Ostiglia Cycle Path

Treviso → Lido di Jesolo

The second day follows the river eastwards into the Sile Natural Park, where the landscape opens up between water, countryside, and silence. Along the way, you pass Venetian villas, remnants of river navigation, and the evocative Burci Cemetery, a unique place where abandoned boats tell stories of the past.

As you continue, the river widens and gradually gives way to the lagoon, until you finally reach the sea. The arrival at Lido di Jesolo marks the end of the journey, with open horizons and the scent of the Adriatic.
